GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyangdizhi Sihao". Year of discovery: 1984. History: Named from its geographical location, North of Xianfa Shoal (Xianfa Ansha, in Chinese). "Bei" means North in Chinese. Xianfa Ansha was thus named by the China Committee on Geographical Names in 1986.
