Belgica information (en): Island 16 mi long and from 2 to 5 mi wide, which is the southernmost of the major islands of the Palmer Archipelago, lying between Anvers Island and the W coast of Antarctic Peninsula. Belgica information (nl): Dit 27 km lange en tussen 4 en 9 km brede eilandis het meest zuidelijke van de grote eilanden in de Palmer Archipel. Het ligt tussen Antwerpen Eilanden de westkust van het Antarctische Schiereiland. De Belgische Antarctica expeditie (1897-1899) onderleiding van Adrien de Gerlache ontdekte het eiland en noemde het naar August-Karl Wiencke,een matroos die tijdens de expeditie het leven liet. |
