GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 2007. History: Named from its geographical location, to the west of Yanbaruhoshi Seamount. "Yanbaruhoshi" is one of the Japanese dialect names that means the Southern Cross. "Nishi" stands for West in Japanese.
