GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1999. History: Named after Capt. Saburo Matsumaru (1908-1975), a renowned Japanese naval aviator. In 1939, he developed a prototype astronomical navigation table, later improved by Mr. Yushiro Tsukamoto and resulting in an "Abridged Astronomical Navigation Table" published by the Hydrographic Department of Japan.
