Notes Additional information (en): This feature has a distorded shape. The given name Magoshichi is used here as his family name, Sato, is very common in Japan. Minimum depth (m): 3756. Maximum depth (m): 5877. Total relief (m): 2121. Dimension/size: 15 km × 15 km.

GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 2000. History: Named in association with the nearby Magoshichi Guyots, which were named after Magoshichi Sato (1910-2006), a legendary Japanese captain and educator in hydrography and oceanography. This feature looks like a badge of Captain Magoshichi, displaying a compass mark. As this mark ressembled a star, "Magoshichi-no-Hoshi" literally means "a star of Captain Magoshichi".
