Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Brazilian survey vessel "Sirius". Year of discovery: 2011. History: Açu is the name of a coastal city in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Norte. It is also the name of the most important river in this area. The term "Açu" is a Tupi indigenous word that means big, bigger or huge.
