GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: USSR Northern Fleet Hydrographic Expedition. Year of discovery: 1972. History: Named after Fyodor Prokop'yevich Afanasenkov (1912-1988), a Russian hydrographer who participated in 38 expeditions in the northern seas of the Arctic Ocean region.    
Additional information (en): The seamount has a gently sloping summit of irregular shape located on the west part of Gakkel Ridge. The southeast slope is dissected and steep; the west slope is gentle. Minimum depth (m): 1964. Maximum depth (m): 3400. Total relief (m): 1436.
